Experimental fiber optics connector, developed at IBM's Raleigh, N.C., laboratory, is designed to assure precise alignment of 1/200th-inch-diameter fibers in center of connector, permitting accurate exchange of millions of bits of computer data a second.

IBM scientist Moshé Zloof, Yorktown, N.Y., conceived a way for computer users with little knowledge of programming to obtain information stored electronically. With his Query-by-Example method, now available to IBM customers, the user merely keys in an example of what is wanted.

Magnetic bubble computer technology that potentially can store 25 million bits of information per square inch is being investigated by IBM scientists. Sawtooth grooves on edge of the "contiguous disk" structure can hold more and smaller bubbles than previous structures. (Test pattern magnified 500 times.)
